Kumho Cutural Art Foundation

Since its establishment on 29th November 1977, under the slogan of ‘nurture young talent, promote culture,’ the Kumho Cultural Foundation (KCF) has ardently dedicated itself to promoting the arts and culture. It seeks to enhance cultural enrichment particularly through classical music and fine arts, and has tirelessly endeavored to discover and nurture young talent.

The Foundation has carried out a wide spectrum of endeavors including; operating the Kumho Art Hall Yonsei and a recital venue that specializes in performances of chamber music; inviting internationally acclaimed orchestras from around the world to perform in Korea; the Kumho Musician of the Year Award for young artists for their outstanding achievement; free loans of rare musical instruments; the provision of free flight tickets for artists’ musical activities abroad; and the grant of awards and scholarships for musical prodigies. Including and beyond this a multitude of strategies are being implemented to further support artists’ careers.

KCF also runs the Kumho Museum of Art which has played a pivotal role in Korean fine art scene. The Museum is committed to the discovery and nurture of aspiring artists and, in conjunction with this, runs the Kumho Art Studio which champions their continued growth as well as the development of the Korean art scene. Through this the reputation of KCF as a cultural organization that actively conducts Mecenat activities has been bolstered.

With these enterprises being widely appreciated and acknowledged, KCF has become the recipient of a number of major awards over the past years including the ‘2002 Presidential Prize of Mecenat.’ Our two former chairmen Seong Yawng Park and Sam Koo Park received the ‘Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award,’ in 2004 and 2014 respectively. As a result, KCF solidified its position as Korea’s representative benefactor of the arts and culture.
