Contemporary Art
The Kumho Cultural Foundation supports leading figures in the Korean art scene through the Kumho Museum of Art. In
particular, the Kumho Young Artist program was launched in the mid-2000s, during a time of growing interest in
emerging artists. The program played a key role in shaping the art scene’s shift toward exploring new forms and
embracing fresh perspectives.
In addition, the museum organizes curated exhibitions featuring prominent contemporary artists who engage with
major issues in modern art, as well as invitational exhibitions showcasing mid-career and senior artists recognized for
their impactful contributions. Through these initiatives, the foundation aims to lay a strong foundation for the
continued growth of Korean art and culture.
The Kumho Cultural Foundation expanded its support initiatives to promote a balanced development of both visual art and music, and operated the Kumho Art Studio under the direction of the Kumho Museum of Art from 2005 to 2021. The studio aimed to discover and nurture emerging artists who would lead the future of Korean art by providing them with dedicated space and opportunities to focus on their creative practice. With a goal of fostering artists who can thrive in a globalized era, the program supported the growth of a new generation of talent. As a result of these efforts, a total of 89 artists completed residencies at the Kumho Art Studio.
